Summary:

The Board Members and interns agreed that merely talking about sustainability is not enough. Our advocacy must focus on policy analysis in order to understand the United States’ less competitive market for renewable energy. Perhaps meeting with lobbying groups would provide further information regarding NGO Sustainability’s role in U.S. policies. Additionally, finding a niche, such as the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) would make our organization competitive.

In terms of international sustainability news, we discussed the Green Fund, Kyoto Protocol and possible climate change agreements to replace the Kyoto Protocol. Though the Board Members do not believe that at this moment a new document will replace Kyoto, we are optimistic for results from the forthcoming conference in Durbin, South Africa this September 2011.

All five of UN NGO Sustainability’s projects continue to progress. Each Board Member contacted the appropriate organizations and world leaders to implement our projects. For example, Mrs. Stibravy has been in touch with Marylander’s for Progress with regards to funding for the Liberia Project; Mr. Pichel is seeking a solar panel for the Liberia Project; and Mrs. Schmidt contacted the office of the Minister of Environment for the Maldives to discuss Sustainable Renewable Energy City/Islands/Countries Project.
