Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Development

Mr. Pinto has worked since 1972 in the energy, climate change, environment and development areas, and has advised 71 developing countries in all regions. He retired from the UN in 2007, his final position being Executive Coordinator (D2) of UNDP’s Global Environment Facility division where he directed the 100+ team with a $6 billion portfolio (including co-financing) comprising 2,500 projects in 130 countries in the areas of climate change, biodiversity, international waters, persistent organic pollutants, land degradation and ozone layer protection. Since 2007 he has been advising governments at senior/ministerial level on short and long-run climate change mitigation and adaptation issues and development implications. He has been a staff member at the World Bank, the UN Secretariat and UNDP. He has been a consultant at the GEF Secretariat, the International Energy Agency, the M.I.T. Energy Laboratory, and the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and has been associated with several consulting firms. He has lectured on energy issues at Stanford University and on environmental issues at Columbia University.
